Wherever you are in the world right now, I hope you’re all doing well and staying as happy and healthy as possible. This year has certainly been a test for us all. Physically, emotionally, mentally. On top of the pandemic, racism is currently at the forefront of the media, with a lot of us spreading the message that Black Lives Matter in support of what’s currently going on in the United States. For me, the upcoming lunar cycle come at a better time. For me personally and for the hopes of a better world.
As an individual, I’m quite spiritual. I believe that we as human beings are connected to the earth, to nature, to the sun and moon in the most magical ways. I believe that if we harness and aline our personal energies with that of the universe, being open, trusting, and honouring ourselves and nature, incredible things can happen.
When it comes to moon magic, whether you want to improve on your goals, your relationships, your inner saboteur or the world around you, the eight phases of the moon are a great entryway into positive manifestation and letting go of the negative energies that may reside within and around you.
Now in saying this, while the moon has its magic, manifestation is a process. Your wants and don’t wants, won’t simply materialise over night. It takes time and you must trust the universe in that timing. So how does it work? My favourite way to connect with the moon and its energy is with first understanding the moon phases and then with a moon ritual.
The New Moon
This is the time to set intentions. To plant new seeds of desire within your life in areas where you’d like to bring forth positive change. when setting your intentions always start with “I will” or “I intend” … you are only able to manifest your intentions. Don’t think of it as a wish list, rather living intentionally. Live with purpose, one that leads to a happy, fulfilling life. Whether you want to achieve monetary success, living a life of compassion, or intentionally finding joy in everyday things. It begins with knowing your desires and intentionally taking action to achieve them.
New Moon Ritual: I like to make myself comfortable in a space free of clutter, somewhere I can see the moon from inside my home if I’m not physically outside. I like to light candles, have my crystals nearby and burn some essential oils to clear my energy. Once I’m fully relaxed, I pull out my journal or a few pieces of paper and begin to write and set my intentions. When that’s done, I say my intentions out loud. I feel this part is essential to manifestation. I then close my eyes, sit quietly and follow my breath as I visualise my desires coming to fruition. I usually do this ritual alone, but it can certainly be done with your soul sisters present.
The Waxing Crescent Moon
This is the time to reflect on your set intentions and the actions needed to manifest them.
The Waxing Quarter Moon
Now is the time to take further appropriate actions. To see the issues that have arisen since the new moon and find workarounds because challenges are our greatest teachers.
The Waxing Gibbous Moon
Right before the full moon, this is the time to turn up the heat. Things should feel like they’re aligning so now’s the time to put in the extra hard yards to really go after your desires.
The Full Moon
When the moon is full, this is the time to evaluate your results and celebrate your achievements. Show gratitude for your accomplishments and take time to enjoy the moment. Let go of any thoughts and ideas not aligned with your goals, considering what may still need work.
Full Moon Ritual: Just like the new moon ritual I like to make myself comfortable in a space free of clutter, again, somewhere I can see the moon from inside my home if I’m not physically outside. Bringing calmness into the space, I take a few deep breaths and begin writing. Reflecting on the past few weeks, I write everything down from what transpired, what are my successes and what I may be bumping up against. When it comes to releasing anything negative, I like to ceremonially burn these barriers and blocks in a fire safe vessel. Alternatively, I sometimes cut the paper into tiny pieces and scatter them into the recycle bin as a means of letting them go. Afterwards I like to put on some music and dance away, filling my body with nothing but positive energy.
The Waning Gibbous Moon
After the full moon, when the light of the moon wanes, it’s important to assess what went well and what went wrong. Ask for help if needed and be receptive to feedback and change. Embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.
The Waning Quarter Moon
Let go of anything that’s not a positive force in your life or obstructs your goals. Negative thoughts, harmful habits, negative people. Use this time to rest and reflect, taking some much needed you time. If you listen carefully, our emotions are often encrypted with messages on where we need to speak up or make changes. Listen for direction and guidance, it’s there.
The Waning Crescent Moon
Refocus your goals and get ready to re set your intentions. This is the final phase of the moon cycle, occurring right before the next new moon. Consider how you’ve changed since the last new moon and what you want moving into the next lunar phase.
Moon rituals aren’t for everyone, but for those trying it for the first time, I always say give yourself at least three months of moon rituals to see what comes up for you. If the whole process isn’t your cup of tea, you many find aspects of it that connect to who you are, which you can then incorporate into your life.
